In Peterborough in an effort to save healthy trees being removed unnecessarily a tree permit is required. Any tree over 3 inches in diameter at breast height (DBH) roughly the size of a pop can requires a $50 permit. In addition if a healthy tree over 6'' is removed it will require a tree replant. Stumps are ground to an average dept of six(6) inches below grade(ground level). Lawn, gardens, or replacement trees can then be added  to your requested preference.
